Wood Used For Building Shelves

Wood strips: simple but effective, wood strips or blocks can be used to keep shelves in place. a strip of wood used at both ends of shelving is known as a cleat support. it can be neatened by nailing a piece of wood across the front shelf to hide the side cleats.. To prep the wood to build the shelving units, cut the pieces that will frame out the top and sides of the shelving units (images 1 and 2). for the back of the shelf, use a 1/4" piece of birch plywood and staple around the edges every 6" to hold it to the shelves (images 3 and 4). next up.. Wood for bookshelves can be divided into three main categories: weakest, stronger, and strongest. these categories also apply to the cost; that is, the weakest is the cheapest and so on..
